Box Score Marissa Redmond (Ajax) and
Paula LaGamba (Toronto) each scored a pair of goals and
Rebecca Bouwhuis (Orillia) stopped 23 of 24 shots as the Waterloo women's hockey team found their first win of the season defeating the Nipissing Lakers 5-1 in North Bay.
With the win Waterloo improves to 1-1-0 on the season while it was the first game of the season for Nipissing.
The Warriors jumped out to a 1-0 lead, 12:13 into the first period as Redmond fired home her first of the season. Captain
Kaitlyn McDonell (Kincardine) and LaGamba picked up the helpers on what was Waterloo's first goal of the young season. The Warriors added to their lead four minutes later as that same line connected once again with LaGamba potting her first as a Warrior.
Up 2-0 going into the second frame, LaGamba padded the Warrior lead with her second of the game on an unassisted marker to put Waterloo up 3-0.
The score would remain 3-0 until Redmond found her second of the game at 8:41 of the third period. McDonell got the lone helper on the goal for her third assist of the contest. The Lakers would spoil the shutout for Bouwhuis as Brooklyn Irwin slid one past the fifth year netminder but a
Siobhan Hewitt-Kenda (North Vancouver) empty netter would put the game away and the Warriors would earn the 5-1 win.
Waterloo will be back in action tomorrow with an afternoon contest against Laurentian in Sudbury.
