Box Score The Waterloo women's hockey team almost pulled off what no other OUA team has been able to this year; almost but not quite. Waterloo stuck with the undefeated Queen's Gaels through 60 minutes of hard-nosed hockey but fell by a tight score of 2-1.
Queen's remains undefeated on the season at 6-0-1 while Waterloo went back to .500 on the season with a 3-3-1 record which was them in sixth overall in the OUA standings.
It was the Warriors who opened the scoring with
Rebecca Rutherford (Ajax) batting home a rebound at 9:27 of the opening frame.
Marissa Redmond (Ajax) and
Amy Barnard (Cambridge) collected the helpers.
Queen's would take over in middle frame as Megan Farrell found the game's tying goal with a point blank chance she made no mistake on. Addi Halladay then put her Gaels up 2-1 on a goal at 15:23 of the second.
That would was all the scoring Queen's would need as Caitlyn Lahonen shut the door the rest of the way for the visiitng side. She made 27 stops for the victory while
Stephanie Sluys (Clinton) was solid between the pipes for Waterloo allowing just two on 30 shots.
Michelle Tanel (Toronto) had the best chances to equalize the game with two late howitzers in the final minutes but they did not get by Lahonen.
Waterloo will be back in action tomorrow against the UOIT Ridgebacks. Puck drop is set for 2:30pm and the game can be seen live on OUA.tv.
