Box Score The Waterloo women's hockey team could not solve Guelph Gryphons netminder Valerie Lamenta as they fell to the visitors 2-0 on Saturday afternoon at the CIF Arena. Waterloo peppered Lamenta all day long but just could not find twine as the black and gold fell to 2-2-1 on the season. The No. 6 ranked Gryphons improved to 3-2-0 on the season.
Following a scoreless opening frame, the Gryphons found the game's opening goal on a nice individual effort by Jessica Pinkerton at 8:39 of the second. Pinkerton picked up a sloppy clearing pass by the Warriors and slid the puck past Bouwhuis to give her squad a 1-0 lead.
Guelph put away the insurance marker at 13:02 of the final period as Leigh Shilton put away a power play goal. Brittany St. James was given the lone assist on the goal.
Waterloo's best scoring chance came off the stick of
Maryn Caragata (Etobicoke) after a nice pass by
Amy Barnard (Cambridge) on a 2-on-1. Caragata shot it just off the side of the net to miss the open net.
Alyssa Gee (Ajax) and
Siobhan Hewitt-Kenda (North Vancouver) also had chances to bang home rebounds in the second period but couldn't beat Lamenta who stopped all 30 shots faced for the win. At the other end
Rebecca Bouwhuis (Orillia) was as strong allowing just two goals on 27 shots.
The Warriors will be back at it tomorrow afternoon as they take on the York Lions at 2:30pm at the CIF. You can catch the action live on OUA.tv.
