Box Score The Warriors put a solid 30 minutes together as they battled the Lakehead Thunderwolves on Friday night in Thunder Bay. Unfortunately for Waterloo, the other 10 minutes was dominated by the home side 35-15 and that proved to be the difference as the Warriors fell 77-70.
The Warriors controlled the opening quarter with strong finishing by third year guard
Jon Ravenhorst (Sarnia) and second year point guard
Myles Charvis (Mississauga). Paired with strong defence, the Warriors saw themselves up 32-27 at half.
Lakehead came out firing in the third quarter and quickly turned the deficit into a lead. The Thunderwolves took over the game inside and outscored the Warriors by 20 in the third.
Waterloo made a strong push for the comeback putting up 23 points compared to Lakehead's 17 in the final quarter but it would not be enough to catch the T-Wolves who clinched the game with the 77-70 win.
Waterloo was 40% from beyond the arc compared to just 23.5% for Lakehead but the difference would be the battles in the paint with Lakehead earning 37 rebounds while Waterloo could only muster 22.
Ravenhort was Waterloo's top scorer with 22 points including five 3-pointer's while Charvis had 16 points in the loss. Rounding out the Warrior attack was
Jaspreet Gill (Oliver) who had 16 points and
Ben Davis (Mississauga) with nine.
Alex Robichaud was Lakehead's top scorer with 16 from the bench while starters Henry Tan and Anthony McIntosh had 14 and 13 respectively.
With the win Lakehead improved to 7-6 on the season and sit second in the central division while Waterloo is fourth in the west at 3-12.
The Warriors close out their six game road trip on Wednesday in Brock before returning to the PAC on Friday, February 13 against Nipissing.
