Box Score Myles Charvis (Mississauga) put on a show for the kids in attendance at the first ever school day game but the Warriors fell short by a score of 93-85 to Laurier on Wednesday afternoon.
Charvis topped his career high by two with 37 points in the afternoon contest as the second year point guard knocked down 15 of 27 from the field including four 3-pointers. He was also successful on 11 of his 13 trips to the line.
Also contributing on the offence was fourth year guard
Jaspreet Gill (Oliver) who finished with 23 points, 12 of which came in the opening quarter.
Laurier jumped out to an early lead and would maintain it throughout the first half as the Hawks shot over 50% from the field in the opening 20 minutes. Strong play down the final minutes by former Warrior Kyrie Coleman would give the Hawks a 10 point lead, 49-39 into the break.
The Hawks came out with all the momentum in the third quarter, opening up a 66-48 lead, led by Coleman and Thomas Garrison who took over the game with several defensive rebounds. Overall, Laurier outrebounded Waterloo 38-31 including 10 more defensive rebounds.
Laurier opened up a 20 point lead into the final quarter but Charvis would put his team on his back in an attempt to mount a comeback. Down 84-72, Charvis would tally 11 of Waterloo's next 14 points to bring the black and gold to within six but a Coleman dunk late in the game would secure the 93-85 victory for the home side.
For the Hawks, Coleman finished with 18 points while Will Coulthard led his team with 21. Charvis and Gill were much of the offensive attack for Waterloo with
Ben Davis (Mississauga) chipping in with nine points in the loss.
The Warriors continue their six game road trip with the lengthy journey to Thunder Bay to take on Lakehead on Friday night. The game can be seen live on OUA.tv starting at 8pm.
