Box Score The Waterloo women's hockey team dropped an important contest on Sunday afternoon as they fell to the Toronto Varsity Blues 2-0. The Warriors offence ran dry as they were unable to get past the stingy Toronto defence with goalie Nicole Kesteris only facing 14 shots for the shutout win.
Starting goalie
Rebecca Bouwhuis (Orillia) was pulled after allowing two goals on eight shots in the opening frame and
Stephanie Sluys (Clinton) stopped the remaining 13 shots in the game in her 43 minutes of relief action.
Fourth-year forward Jacqueline Scheffel opened the scoring 1:58 into the game when she received a pass from Katherine Gale and skated down the ice, firing the puck short side to beat Bouwhuis.
U of T extended their lead late in the first frame when veteran Amanda Ricker found Alessandra Bianchi in front of the net and she wired a shot into the top corner of the net.
That was all the offence the Blues needed as they would skate away with the 2-0 win, their 13
th of the season. The Blues are now 13-3-3 on the season to sit tied for second overall while Waterloo (8-7-4) continues to hang on to a playoff spot as they are tied with York and Ryerson at 20 points.
After four straight road games the Warriors now return to the CIF for a meeting with the Brock Badges on Saturday before taking on Guelph on Sunday. Puck drop for both games will be at 2:30pm.
