Box Score The Waterloo Warriors might well have won the hockey game, if it weren't for losing the pinball game.

Ryerson's Emma Rutherford scored the game-tying goal off her shin pad in the third period, and Kayla Karbonik scored the only goal of the shootout as the Rams topped the Warriors 2-1 in a shootout on Wednesday night in Toronto.

Athlete of the week Rebecca Bouwhuis (Orillia) put in another solid effort between the pipes, making 28 saves in the loss. While Waterloo (8-6-4) could not pick up two crucial points in the standings, the single point they picked up kept the Warriors in a playoff spot for the time being.  Waterloo, Ryerson and York are now all tied for the eighth and final playoff spot with 20 points.

The game's first goal did not come until 4:05 into the third as Kaitlyn McDonell (Kincardine) was wide open in the slot and wristed home her sixth of the season past Ryerson's goalie Alex Armstrong.  Marissa Redmond (Ajax) was given the lone helper on the goal.

Only six minutes later the Rams evened the score as Karbonik's shot was kicked aside by Bouwhuis, but right off of Rutherford's leg for her eighth of the season, sending the game to overtime.

After a goalless overtime period, the two teams would fight for the extra point in a shootout. Karbonik tallied the only goal for Ryerson with a nice move, and Armstrong stopped all three shootout attempts to secure the 2-1 win for her squad.

Waterloo will look to bounce back on Sunday when they travel to Toronto to take on the Varsity Blues who are 11-3-3 on the season and sit tied for fifth in the OUA standings.
