Box Score 2 The Waterloo baseball team split their midweek games with Laurier in the battle of Waterloo played at Bechtel Park falling 7-2 in the opener but bouncing back to win 5-4 in game two. Waterloo  is now even at .500 with a 3-3 record while Laurier lost their perfect record and now sit at 4-1 on the young season.
The opening contest was all Laurier as the Golden Hawks scored at least a run in six of nine innings played, cruising to the 7-2 win. Waterloo starting pitcher
Adam Lentz (Calgary/) was given the loss which saw his record fall to 1-1 on the season. Lentz gave up eight hits and six earned runs over six innings pitched. Picking up the win for Laurier was Jordan Petruska who went the distance striking out five batters and giving up only one walk.
Michael Clouthier (Guelph/) was the lone bright spot in the opening contest going 2-for-4 with one RBI and one run scored.
A different Warrior squad showed up for game two as the bats came to life as the black and gold handed Laurier their first loss of the season with the 5-4 win.
A 4-run effort in the top of the third would be the difference with
Kevin Martin (Ottawa/) and
Mike Gatchene (Kitchener/) leading the way offensively with two hits apiece while each adding an RBI. First baseman
Cody Engel (Waterloo /) rounded out the attack with two RBI's of his own.Â
On the mound,
Ben Tinklin (Kitchener/) was solid going five and one-third allowing two hits and three runs while striking out seven Golden Hawk batters. Clouthier picked up the save getting Tinklin out of a jam in the bottom of the seventh.
Waterloo will be back at it this weekend with four games on the road. They will take on the Ryerson Rams on Saturday before a visit with the McMaster Marauders in Hamilton on Sunday.
