Box Score 2 The Warriors field hockey team opened up their season on Sunday, September 14
th with a tie vs. McGill and a hard fought loss to Toronto. Waterloo opens the season 0-1-1 but showed positive strides leading into the year.
Waterloo kicked off their campaign again McGill on Sunday morning and came out with a very strong first half. Both teams traded possession early with both squads missing some near opportunities. The Warriors opened up the scoring off of a penalty stroke, taken by this week's athlete of the week,
Stephanie Snyder (Waterloo/), in the 25
th minute. McGill answered in the second half with the tying goal in the 50
th minute which was the last offence to be registered in the game. Both teams walked away with a point in a 1-1 draw.
In the afternoon, a tough battle took place against the University of Toronto; a team that is known for being offensively gifted. Waterloo played a strong defensive game right through from the forward line through the defence and goalkeeper
Nickole LeVear (Milton/). Although the Varsity Blues scored twice in the first half, the score remained 2-0 for most of the game until the Warriors gave up a third goal late in 65
th minute to bring the game to a close at 3-0. The Warriors opened their year going 0-1-1 and look forward to a shot at redemption during their rematch on October 19
th.
Waterloo will travel to Guelph this Wednesday to take on the 1-0 Gryphons followed by a trip to Kingston this weekend to face the winless Western Mustangs and .the 500 Queen's Gaels.
