The Waterloo Warriors football program held their second annual gala last week Bingemans with a large contingent of alumni, family and friends on attendance to support the program. Mike Hogan of TSN was the master of ceremonies for the second straight year while many of the current Warriors were on hand to greet and mingle with those in attedance.
The highlight of the evening was the induction of four new members to the
Ring of Honour. Members inducted into the Ring of Hnour have been an ambassador for the program during their time at uWaterloo or after, and have had a significant impact to Waterloo football.
2014 Ring of Honour InducteesDr. Edward Scorgie 1966-69Ed was the very first all-Canadian player in Warrior history. An outstanding defensive lineman, he was a two time O-QAA all-star in 1968 and 1969, an all0Canadian in 1969 and a 2-time team captain. Ed has a long time passion for continuing education and returned to Waterloo in 1988 to begin his doctoral work, graduating as Dr. Edward Scorgie PhD, Geography from the University of Waterloo in the fall of 1994. He returned to the Warrior fold from 2007-11 assisting in the 50
th Reunion, working with alumni, coaching defensive line, assisting in recruiting and helping in our academic counselling program.
Tom Chartier 1988-92One of the great running backs in OUA history, Tom finished 6
th in OUA history and 3
rd in Waterloo history in rushing yards, including back to back 1,000 yard seasons in a 7 game schedule. Tom was the first player in Warrior history to be named OUA MVP in 1990 and was an OUA All-Star and All Canadian in 1990, 1991, 1992. Tom graduated from Kinesiology and set the bar high for the great Warrior running backs that followed.
Cory Delaney 1990-94An outstanding corner for the Warriors, Cory graduated in Science at Waterloo and was the cornerstone of one of the OUA's best defenses. He is second in Warrior history and tied for 5
th in the OUA for interceptions with 17. A 3-time OUA All-Star in 1992,93,and 94, he was also an all-Canadian in 1994. Cory was the second player in Warrior history to be named OUA Defensive Player of the Year in 1994.
Jason Tibbits 1995-99Jason was a multiple threat for the Warriors, as a corner, free safety and kick returner. An Economics graduate, Jason ranks 7
th on the OUA list for interceptions with 15 and first in Warrior history with 21 (including playoffs) as well as holding the record for the second longest kickoff return in OUA history at 111 yards. A 4-time OUA all-star as a corner in 1996, 97,98,99 he was also an All Star Kick Off Returner in 1999. Jason was All Canadian in 1996, 97, 98, and was the third player in Warrior history to be named OUA Defensive Player of the year in 1998.
