Box Score The Warriors men's volleyball team could not have scripted a better outcome for their home openers Saturday evening. The black and gold were taking on RMC in front of a raucous crowd that saw them win in straight sets (25-18, 25-17, 25-9). The Warriors are now 1-0 to start the season.
Waterloo was looking to start off the season strong in front of many alumni, family and friends during Alumni Big Ticket Day. From start to finish, the Warriors were dominant and never allowed the Paladins to gain any momentum.
Waterloo took the first set 25-18 and had a solid .310 kill percentage. Even more impressive was in set 2, where they won 25-17, Waterloo had an outstanding .500 kill percentage. In the third set, Waterloo make a whole-sale line change and gave a number of rookies court time. The new-look Warriors relished at the opportunity and defeated the Paladins 25-9 in the third and final set.
Jordan Dyck (St. Catharines) was a beast for the Warriors, collecting 4 kills and 1 solo block and 3 assisted blocks. Leading attacker was
Jordan McConkey (Stratford) who had 9 kills (.900 kill percentage) and 8 assisted blocks while running mate
Zachary Doherty (Goderich) had 9 kills, and 5 digs.
Aaron Wiersma (St. Catharines) was also a force for the Warriors, posting 8 kills and 4 digs in the victory.
Nikola Dimitrijevic (Mississauga), in place of injured
Gibson Graham (Markham), had an admirable night with 31 assists and 5 digs.
The Warriors will be travelling off site to RIM Park next weekend to host the York Lions on Friday and the Nipissing Lakers on Saturday. Both games start at 8pm, but will not be streamed online.
