Warriors give No. 5 Gaels a scare

Rebecca Bouwhuis making one of her 27 saves in the loss
Box Score The Warriors put up a good fight against the No. 5 Queen's Gaels but fell short in a 3-1 loss on Friday night in Kingston.

Danielle Girard (Sarnia, Ont.) got the Gaels rolling on the powerplay, scoring the game's first goal in the final minute of the opening period from Courtenay Jacklin (Regina).

Midway through the second period, Nadia Larocca (Mississauga, Ont.) shoveled the puck into Waterloo's net with a scramble in front to give the Gaels a 2-0 lead, with Girard picking up an assist.

The Warriors got one back before the second intermission on their third power play chance of the game. Rachel Marriot potted her team leading sixth of the season with Stephanie Digness (Aldergrove/) picking up the assist.  The Warriors would hit the post in the dying seconds of the period, but the Gaels maintained their 2-1 lead to start the third.

In the final frame, Jacklin picked up her second point of the night, burying an insurance marker for Queen's in close.

Rebecca Bouwhuis (Orillia/) was in goal for Waterloo, stopping 27 shots in the loss.

Caitlyn Lahonen (Sharon, Ont.) got the call for the Gaels, picking up the win with 21 saves.

Marriott is riding a four game point streak with 3 goals and 4 assists over that span.  She is also leading her team and tied for points among OUA rookies with 16.

Waterloo will have the rest of the weekend off before returning to action next weekend at the CIF for their final two home games of the season.  Nipissing comes to town on Saturday followed by Laurentian on Sunday.
