Hawks sweep battle of Waterloo

Myles Charvis led the Warriors with 23 points
Box Score For the first time in three years, the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks men's basketball team earned a season sweep of the Waterloo Warriors as they took home a 90-86 victory on Wednesday night at the Athletic Complex.

After earning a 94-80 win at Waterloo back in November, the Hawks rallied from a slow start in the two team's second and final meeting of the year before holding off the Warriors late to improve their record to 7-8 on the season.  Meanwhile the loss drops Waterloo's record to 2-13 on the year.

Leading the way for the Hawks was Jamar Forde of Mississauga, Ont., and rookie guard James Agyemanof Toronto. Both players recorded double-doubles as the veteran Forde had a team-high 17 points to go along with 10 rebounds and four assists, while Agyeman recorded his first career double-double with 10 points, 11 rebounds and six assists.

Myles Charvis (Mississagua/) of Mississauga, Ont., led the Warriors effort with 23 points, nine rebounds and six assists while Wayne Bridge (North York/Eastern Commerce) posted a double-double with 19 points and 11 rebounds.  Jaspreet Gill (Oliver/) finished with 17 points in the loss.

With the win and Western's loss to Windsor, the Hawks move back into sole possession of third place in the OUA West division. As for the Warriors, they fail to gain ground on idle Lakehead in the fight for the sixth and final playoff berth.

The black and gold will be in tough for their third win of the season on Saturday up against a stingy Windsor Lancers squad on the road.  Tip-off is set for 4pm as the St. Denis Centre.
