Warriors split weekend games with T-Wolves

Jaspreet Gill capped off a tremendous week with 27 points in Waterloo's 77-71 win over Lakehead Saturday night
Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 It was the tale of two different Warrior teams in a weekend split with the Lakehead Thunderwolves in Thunder Bay.

Waterloo's offence was cold all game long in the opening game on Friday night including only 10 points in the fourth quarter as the Warriors dropped the contest 76-48.

A different team in black and gold showed up on Saturday as the visiting Warriors would earn the split topping the T-Wolves 77-71 on Saturday night.
It was clear from the tip that Waterloo was playing with renewed purpose, jumping out to lead 19-15 after the first quarter and 38-26 at the half. Waterloo would stretch their lead to 19 early in the 3rd quarter.

Once again Waterloo's zone defense caused fits for Lakehead's offense, which struggled to get going until the third quarter, as they scored 20 to narrow Waterloo's lead to six with 10 minutes to play.

With the game on the line late in the fourth quarter Waterloo shooters were on point, led by Jaspreet Gill (Oliver/) who scored a game-high 27 points (6-of-10 3FG). By contrast the entire Lakehead roster hit only 5 long range shots on 23 attempts.

Three of those three-pointers came from Jamar Coke, who led the Wolves with 15 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists. Reserve post Justin Bell had an efficient 11 points while Igor Lebov put in 13 of his own with 7 rebounds.

Three other Warriors hit double figures, including veteran Wayne Bridge (North York/Eastern Commerce) with 19 points while Myles Charvis (Mississagua/) and Mike Helsby (Waterloo/) had 11 and 10 points respectively.

The Warriors, who have opened 2014 with a 2-1 record are now 2-10 on the season and will look to continue their momentum on Wednesday when they battle the McMaster Marauders.  Third year guard Jaspreet Gill (Oliver/) will be looking to keep the hot hand after his 70 points in three games this past week.  Game time is set for 8pm at the PAC and it can be viewed live on Warriors TV.
