The women's rugby team improved to 3-1 on the season spoiling yet another homecoming with a 19-12 victory over the Western Mustangs in London on Saturday afternoon. After spoiling Brock's homecoming last weekend the Warriors continued their hot play of late to win their third straight game.Â
Megan Colwell (Spencerville/) had nine points on three successful penalty goals to lead the Waterloo attack.
The win puts Waterloo alone in second place in the OUA Shiels Division with 14 points, five back of first place Guelph. With the loss Western dropped to 2-2 and find themselves in third place.
The first half would be all Waterloo as
Kourteney King (Belleville/) drove home her third try of the season. Colwell would add one of her three penalty goals to put Waterloo up 8-0. That would be all the first half scoring as Waterloo would stand tall on the defensive side of the ball to keep Western off the score sheet.
After back and forth play in the second half, Colwell would again split the uprights with her second penalty goal of the match to put Waterloo up 11-0.Â
Eight minutes later Western would cut into Waterloo's lead on a try by Danielle Spice but Waterloo would answer right back with another Colwell penalty goal and
Renee Woodhouse (Stratford/)'s third try of the season to give Waterloo a comfortable 19-5 lead.
Western would add a late try but could not complete the comeback as Waterloo would take the game 19-12.
The Warriors will wrap up their regular season play next weekend with a match in Kingston against the undefeated Queen's Gaels who hold first place in the Russell Division.  The match is set for Saturday at 4pm.
