Box Score

The Waterloo Warriors used a late game surge to defeat the visiting Western Mustangs 83-66 on Wednesday night at the PAC.  Waterloo has enjoyed success in their midweek games with a record of 4-1 as the black and gold now have an overall record of 4-14 and are very much alive in the playoff hunt.

First year member of the Warriors Mike Helsby (Waterloo/) and true freshman Wells Davis (Mississagua/) were clutch for the home side with career highs of 25 and 20 points respectively.  Helsby was on fire going 8-for-10 from the field which included five from beyond the arc.  Davis was also as effective from beyond the arc going 4-for-8 while adding another three field goals.  Both players were perfect from the line while Helsby was strong on the boards with eight rebounds and added six assists.

Also chipping in on the offense was Jaspreet Gill (Oliver/) who had 15 points while Wayne Bridge (North York/Eastern Commerce) had 11 in the winning effort.

The two combatants went toe-to-toe throughout the opening three quarters until Waterloo opened up the game in the fourth, outscoring the Mustangs 27-18, cruising to victory.

George Johnson (London) led the Mustangs in scoring with 18 points in a losing effort.

The Warriors honoured their lone graduating senior Brendan Smith (Kamloops/Sa-Hali S.S.) prior to the game who was ecstatic to pick up a win in his final regular season home game donning the black and gold. Smith had six points and five rebounds in the contest.

Waterloo will finish their final three regular season games on the road and kick off the trip this Saturday at McMaster.  Tip-off is set for 3pm.
