Box Score The Waterloo men's basketball team saw their OUA season come to an end on Wednesday night in a hard fought 82-60 loss to the third ranked McMaster Marauders.
The Warriors started well, leading 11-4 after five minutes of play but McMaster took over at that point, starting with a 17-0 run and a double digit lead at 21-11. A
Jaspreet Gill (Oliver/) three at the buzzer to close the first half made it a four point lead for McMaster, 32-28.
Early in the third, Waterloo would narrow the gap to just two points on two occasions. Down by four,
Wells Davis (Mississagua/) drove to the basket and had a collision with a McMaster defender. He left the game aided by teammates and did not return to play. McMaster was on a 13-2 run to regain their margin.
Early in the fourth Gill hit two successive threes and the lead was back down to six but Waterloo ran out of steam and McMaster started raining in the three point shots. Over the last eight minutes of play, McMaster outscored Waterloo 28-12 to advance to the OUA west semifinals against Lakehead on Saturday.
Joe Rocca led McMaster with 27 points, including six from the three point line. Nathan McCarthy with 14 and Taylor Black with 13 rounded out the top scorers for McMaster. For Waterloo,
Jaspreet Gill (Oliver/) led the way with 21 points.
Mike Helsby (Waterloo/) added 10 points.
With the loss, the season comes to an end for the Warriors finishing with a 10-21 record in CIS play.
