Warriors come up short against Gaels; face Laurier in OUA quarter-finals

Box Score The Waterloo Warriors wrapped up their 2012-13 regular season with a hard fought 2-1 loss to the Queen's Gaels in a rare Monday afternoon game that was rescheduled from Friday evening.  With the win Queen's grabbed the third spot in the OUA while Waterloo had already clinched eighth place prior to the game.

The Gaels opened the scoring on the power play as Taryn Pilon (Peterborough) fired home her 12th goal of the season.

Following a scoreless second period, Queen's extended their lead to 2-0 as Alexandria Biglieri (Toronto) snapped home her fourth of the season.

Waterloo would cut into the lead at the 19:07 minute mark on Kelly MacLean (St. George/)'s sixth of the season but it would be too little too late as the Gaels would hold on for their 20th win of the season to set up a first round match-up with the UOIT Ridgebacks.

Waterloo's rookie goalie Allie Mitchell (Niagara Falls/) got the call and looked solid making 21 stops on 23 shots faced while Queen's goalie Karissa Savage (Calgary) allowed one goal on 25 shots.

The Warriors finished the season with a 9-14-3 record and will face the Laurier Golden Hawks in the OUA quarter-finals with game one set for Wednesday, February 13 at the Memorial Rec Complex, 7:30pm.  Game two will go Saturday, February 16 at the CIF Arena, 2pm and if necessary game three will be played on Sunday at the Rec Complex, 7:30pm.
