Box Score The Warriors dropped a tightly contested match to the Western Mustangs on Saturday night at the PAC by a score of 3-2 (19-25, 25-21, 25-20, 22-25, 15-10).
The loss is only Waterloo's third of the year and puts them at 14-3 going into their final game of the season on Sunday against the Windsor Lancers.
With a win over the Lancers the Warriors will clinch second spot but a loss and a Western win will result in a tie-breaker with the Mustangs to determine the second seed.
The Warriors opened the match the way they hoped with a 25-19 set win but the Mustangs battled back to take the next two 25-21, 25-20.
The resilient Warriors would find a way to get back in the match and send it to a fifth set thanks to a 25-22 fourth set win. The fifth set would however be all Mustangs as they captured the deciding set 15-10 to pick up their 13
th win of the season.
Fiodar Kazhamiaka (Waterloo/) had a strong game in the loss with 15 kills, four digs and two blocks. From the middle
Jordan Dyck (St. Catharines/) collected 14 kills on his 19 attempts.
Scott Thomson (St. Marys/) earned 46 assists and 10 digs for the black and gold.
Leading the charge for the Mustangs was Justin Scapinello (London) who led all players with 19 kills.
The Warriors will play their final game of the regular season today against Windsor at 4pm as part of their graduating senior day. They will then take the week to prepare for their OUA quarter-final match on Saturday, February 16
th at 7pm with their opponent yet to be determined.
