Squash Report: Jester's Crossover Tournament

This past weekend the Waterloo Squash Team competed in the Jester's crossover tournament at the National Squash Academy.

On the women's side, the first match-up was against the University of Toronto. The women were in tough but gave it their all regardless. Grace Leung (Markham/) had a close battle and was able to sneak a game away from Toronto's Mabel Low, and Natasha Seth (Fergus/) lost a close one in 5 against Toronto's number one. The second match-up was with our friendly neighbours Laurier. As a new team they are still developing their players, so the Warriors were able to win all the matches. On Sunday the women faced Queen's. The tough competition called for flawless squash. Hannah Dabrowski (Waterloo/) and Adaboa Biney-Assan were both down in their matches but were able to come back and win. Marisa Seth (Fergus/) played her best tournament squash but fell short in a 5 game nail biter.

On the men's side, the first match-up was against University of Toronto. Jeff Muirhead (Waterloo/), Cameron Seth (Fergus/) and Hussein Salemwalla (Maple/) came up with big wins against the Blues, however it was not enough to win the match, with the Warriors losing 4-3. Next up for the Warriors was the Queen's Gaels. The Gaels depth proved too much for the Warriors, as Queen's won at positions 3 through 7. Cameron Seth (Fergus/) and Rohan Sovig (Markham/) pulled of wins at positions 1 and 2, giving an overall score of 5-2 for the Gaels. On Sunday the Warriors gained 2 key wins against McGill and Laurier, with scores of 6-1 and 7-0 respectively. Special mention to Rohan Sovig (Markham/) who played some ridiculously amazing squash winning two tough matches in five.

There was also a doubles squash competition this weekend and Waterloo did very well. Cameron Seth (Fergus/) and Hussein Salemwalla (Maple/) placed second overall and Keeley Levitt (St. Catharines/) and Natasha Seth (Fergus/) placed first on the women's side!
