Box Score Carolyn Burke (Mississauga/) continued her latest tear with two more goals while
Rachel Marriott (Waterloo/),
Nicole Ballantyne (Toronto/), and
Siobhan Hewitt-Kenda (North Vancouver/) each added one as the Warriors cruised to a 5-0 win over the York Lions on Sunday afternoon. Burke now has four goals in the past two games and seven on the season.
Waterloo will head into the exam break on a high note, winning their last two games to move back to .500 on the season at 6-6-3, good for a tie with Windsor for seventh. York continues to move down the standings going 1-8-1 in their past 10 and 3-11-1 overall.
Rebecca Bouwhuis (Orillia/) was forced to make only 16 saves for her first shutout of the season while York's keeper Megan Lee allowed the five markers on 29 Warrior shots.
Burke opened the scoring 15:44 into the first period showing her nice breakaway speed and sliding in the puck between the legs of Lee to put Waterloo up 1-0. With only 19 seconds remaining in the first, Marriott put home her own rebound to give the Warriors a 2-0 lead into the intermission. Marriott's goal was her third of the season.
After the middle frame changed nothing, Burke again found the net, this time on a 5-on-3 as she shoveled it off Lee into the top corner to put Waterloo up 3-0.
The Lions continued to get into penalty trouble and Waterloo would make them pay once again as Ballantyne tapped in a nice pass from
Marissa Redmond (Ajax/) for the power play marker.
Not to be outdone Hewitt-Kenda would ice the game as Ballantyne sprung her free on a nice pass and Hewitt-Kenda put the shot through Lee to secure the 5-0 win.
Waterloo, who has now scored seven unanswered goals in the past two games, will enjoy all of December off before returning to action in their Christmas tournament on January 3. Stay tuned to
