Box Score The Warriors closed out 2013 on a losing note with another fourth quarter collapse as the Brock Badgers got past the black and gold 80-75 on Saturday afternoon in St. Catharines. With the loss, Waterloo remains winless on the season at 0-9 while Brock improved to 2-8.
Brock jumped out to a 14-2 lead in the opening four minutes and led 23-11 after one quarter. In the second quarter, Waterloo would go on a 15-4 in the final five minutes leading 38-35 at the half.
The Warriors would extend their lead to nine, 51-42, midway through the third quarter and held onto a 60-54 lead after 30 minutes.
With six minutes left in regulation, the Badgers trailed 66-62, before going on an 11-0 run over the next four and a half minutes to take a 73-66 lead with 1:37 remaining. Brock knocked down five of seven free throws in the final minute to secure the victory.
Brock had all five starters in double figures led by freshman
Dani Elgadi (Waterloo, Ont.) who recorded 17 points and 11 rebounds for the double-double.
Tshing Kasamba (St. Catharines, Ont.) contributed with 16 points and seven rebounds while
Rashad Morley (Nassau) added 14 points and seven boards.
Mike Helsby (Waterloo/) led the Warriors with a game-high 18 points.
Jaspreet Gill (Oliver/) and
Wayne Bridge (North York/Eastern Commerce) chipped in with 17 points each in the loss.
Waterloo will take the exam break to regroup before returning to action on Tuesday, January 7 in their make-up game with the Toronto Varsity Blues.
