Box Score The Waterloo women's hockey team dropped their second straight game that went to extra time falling to the Ryerson Rams 3-2 in overtime on Thursday night at the Mattamy Centre in Toronto.
Halfway into the overtime period, Ryerson set up shop in the Waterloo zone and third year centre Melsisa Wronzberg (Thornhill, Ont.) got a stick on it and slid the puck past Waterloo's starting goalie
Rebecca Bouwhuis (Orillia/) to secure the extra point.
After Ryerson opened the scoring it was Waterloo who took a 2-1 lead into the third period.
Kelly Toms (Ennismore/) put home her third goal of the season early in the second period before
Amy Barnard (Cambridge/) potted her second career goal.
The Rams found the equalizer early in the third as Janella Brodett tallied her second of the season past Bouwhuis at the 4:20 minute mark.
In the late stages of the game things got a little bit strange. A shot on goal by Waterloo had them thinking that they got it past Ryerson starting goaltender Emma Crawley and a celebration ensued. There was no signal from the referee and Ryerson went down the ice in a 5-0 opportunity but the Bouwhuis would deny the chance and keep it locked at two's.
The Warriors would be unable to generate any opportunities in overtime and the Rams would take full advantage to grab the overtime victory.
Bouwhuis stopped 16 shots in the game while Crawley had 19 in the win.
Both teams struggled on the specialty teams. Ryerson went 0-5 on the power play while Waterloo was 0-4.
The Warriors will have a tough test on Saturday when they make their way back to Toronto to face the 6-2-1 Varsity Blues on Saturday. Puck drop is set for 4pm.
