Box Score The Warriors failed to secure two crucial points in competition with the Laurentian Voyageurs on Sunday afternoon as Waterloo fell to the home side 3-2 in a shootout. Laurentian scored with six seconds left in regulation and found the only shootout goal to steal away points from the black and gold.
Waterloo jumped out of the gate with the momentum outshooting the Voyageurs 12-4 in the opening frame and the visiting side would be rewarded with the first goal of the game as
Carolyn Burke (Mississauga/) potted her first goal of the season.
Stephanie Digness (Aldergrove/) and
Siobhan Hewitt-Kenda (North Vancouver/) were given the helpers on the goal.
Waterloo would carry their momentum into the second period as Digness once again found the scoresheet netting her fourth goal of the season. Hewitt-Kenda earned her second assist of the game on the Digness goal while
Michelle Tanel (Toronto/) was also in on the action.
As the second period continued on the Voyageurs began to tilt the ice in their favour and would cut into Waterloo's lead at the 13:09 mark as Mikayla Ferlaino put one past Waterloo starting goalie
Allie Mitchell (Niagara Falls/).
The Voyageurs would keep up the pressure into the third period and with only six seconds remaining would find the equalizer as Jessica Staats put home her third of the season. The Voyageuers outshot Waterloo 10-4 in the final period with Mitchell stopping nine of those shots, 26 overall.
With overtime settling nothing the Voyageurs would earn the extra point in the shootout with Staats scoring the lone shootout goal. With the win Laurentian improved to 4-6-0 on the season while Waterloo dropped to 4-5-1 and sit in the eighth and final playoff spot with nine points.
The Warriors continue their five game road trip on Thursday in Toronto as they face the Ryerson Rams before taking on the Varsity Blues on Saturday.
