Upstart Warriors take care of Lakers, Lions

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The Waterloo men's volleyball team opened up their 2013 campaign in style with two straight road wins defeating Nipissing and York.  Waterloo took care of Nipissing in North Bay on Friday night in straight sets (22, 17, 16) before dropping only one set to York on Saturday in their 3-1 (23-25, 25-22, 25-17, 25-21) win over the Lions.

Waterloo's middles led the charge in their victory over the Lions with both Jordan Dyck (St. Catharines/) and Tyler Motherwell (Toronto/Warriors) posting 12 kills each.   Dyck did so in only 16 attempts for a kill percentage of 62.5 while Motherwell's was as impressive at 57.9%.  The dynamic duo also combined for eight blocks in the win.

Zachary Doherty (Goderich/) and Aleks Poldma (Toronto/Warriors) also contributed to the Waterloo attack with 10 and 11 kills respectively.  Defensively Erich Woolley (New Dundee/) had 17 digs in the match while Scott Thomson (St. Marys/) dished out 42 assists.

Ray Szeto led the way for Lions posting the most kills in the game at 16.  Setter Paul Jakubiak had 38 assists in a losing effort.

The Warriors will continue their early season road trip next weekend in London as they battle the Western Mustangs on Friday before taking on Windsor on Saturday.
