It was a six point game with four minutes remaining, but the visiting Windsor Lancers hit two long threes and went on to win 85-69 in Waterloo on Saturday afternoon.
Waterloo hit the first basket early as the promotional crowd was larger than usual, but then fell behind 16-7 in the first quarter early going. By the first break it was down to a single point again, as Windsor led just 18-17.
The second quarter had the same theme, as early in the quarter Windsor extended the lead to 9 points. Waterloo had it down to just 5 but a three by Enrico Diloreto at the buzzer made the Windsor lead 40-32 at half time.
In the third Waterloo narrowed the gap early, but Windsor grabbed leads of as much as 15 points, until a late surge brought the score back to 67-57 after three quarters.
In the fourth, Waterloo hung around and a
Wayne Bridge (North York/Eastern Commerce) three-pointer with 4:26 to play made it a six point game. Two shots later and Windsor had a 12 point lead and the game under control.
Jaspreet Gill (Oliver/) led Waterloo with 20 points, 12 of those coming in the third quarter when he hit 3 threes and the 3 free throws when fouled on another attempt.
Wayne Bridge (North York/Eastern Commerce) added 12 points for Waterloo.
Windsor, which hit 14 of 27 from the three point line, was led by Enrico Diloreto with 18 points, while Lien Phillip and Josh Collins had 15 each.
Next game for Waterloo is Wednesday Jan 30 when they host Brock. Game time is 8:00pm at the PAC.
