Box Score Kelly Toms (Ennismore/) and
Katie Dods (Kemptville/) each tallied third period markers while
Rebecca Bouwhuis (Orillia/) shut the door making 28 saves as the Waterloo Warriors picked up a 2-0 win over the UOIT Ridgebacks on Friday night in Oshawa.
The win was crucial in moving four points ahead of York for the eighth and final playoff spot while they closed the gap on seventh place UOIT. Waterloo is now 7-11-3 on the season while the Ridgebacks dropped below .500 with a 9-10-2 record.
The Ridgebacks controlled most of the play throughout the opening two periods, outshooting the Warriors 18-3 but Bouwhuis and the Warrior blue liners stood tall to keep the puck out of their net.
The Warriors came out of the dressing room in the third determined to open the scoring and they did just that as Toms wired home her second of the season. Play continued back and forth until Dods added the insurance marker at the 13:37 minute mark on her fourth goal of the season.
Bouwhuis did the rest stopping all 28 shots faced for her first shutout of the season. At the other end Cassie Charette (Ottawa) was less busy but allowed two goals on just 13 shots.
The Warriors will enjoy the day off before returning to action on Sunday against the York Lions at 2pm. The game will be the third qualifier for the
Ultimate Warrior series and can be seen live on
SSN Canada.
