Warriors sweep Blues in three tight sets

Erich Woolley collected 11 more digs in the match to give him 156 on the season (most in OUA)
Box Score The Waterloo Warriors came out on top, sweeping the Toronto Varsity Blues in three tight sets on Saturday afternoon at the Athletic Centre Sports Gym.  Waterloo improved to 12-2 on the season and remains in second place in the OUA while Toronto dropped to 4-9.

Right side hitter Zachary Doherty (Goderich/) led all players with 14 points on his 11 kills and three blocks.  Doherty also added six digs and one service ace in the win.  Aleks Poldma (Toronto/Warriors) was a factor for the black and gold as well with 10 kills. 

For the Blues, Mitchell Woodside (Clyde River, P.E.I), Jonathan Adomait (Dundas, Ont.) and Jake Dysselhof (Mississauga, Ont.) each has eight kills, with Adomait adding a team-high nine digs. Setter Michael Denton notched 33 assists in the loss.
 
The Blues battled hard with the No. 10 Warriors through all three sets. Trailing 13-16 at the first technical time out, Toronto went on a 7-0 run to take a 20-16 lead. The Warriors then showed their dominance, ending the set on a 9-2 run to take it 25-22.
 
U of T came out strong in the second set and held a 16-10 advantage at the technical time out. The Warriors battled back to even the score at 24-24 before taking it 26-24 for the 2-0 lead.
 
Waterloo carried that momentum over into the third, building a 19-14 lead. The Blues came back to bring it within two (22-24) but were unable to complete the comeback in the 22-25 loss.

Setter Scott Thomson (St. Marys/) had a strong game with 31 assists in the match which puts him fourth in the OUA with 463 assists in 45 sets.  Second year libero Erich Woolley (New Dundee/) showed off his athletic abilities once again leading all defensive stats with 11 digs.  Woolley has 56 more digs than anyone in the OUA with 156 in 51 sets.

Waterloo will finish off their mini two game road trip with a meeting against the Ryerson Rams tomorrow afternoon at 2pm.
