The Waterloo Warriors hosted the OUA West third place McMaster Marauders on Saturday afternoon and came out on the short side of a 81-70 score. With the win McMaster improves to 7-6 on the season while Waterloo drops to 2-11.
After an opening Waterloo bucket, McMaster started quickly and gained a 14-7 lead after 5 minutes played in the game. Waterloo kept pace, had narrowed the gap until a McMaster three at the buzzer put the lead back at 7 after the first quarter.
In the second, Waterloo chipped away at the lead throughout the quarter and managed to tie the score at 38-38 at half time.
Waterloo also opened the scoring in the second half, but McMaster answered quickly and established another 7 point lead 5 minutes into the third quarter. This time there was not a Waterloo comeback, although it was as close as 5 points with 8:55 remaining in the game.McMaster would extend the lead to 13 points, eventually winning by the81-70 margin.
Both teams spread the scoring with nine players in total getting 10 or more points. Taylor Black led McMaster with 21 points and 9 rebounds.
Kyrie Coleman (Washington/) led Waterloo with 13 points and 6 rebounds. Coleman was 5-for-9 from the field while hitting three free throws.
Jaspreet Gill (Oliver/) was also in double digits on Saturday with 11 points while
Zach Angelini (Hamilton/St. Thomas More) and
Wells Davis (Mississagua/) each had 10 in the loss.
McMaster did hit 53% from the field despite a poor showing from long range, and 23 of 31 free throws.
