Bradt scores overtime winner as Warriors clip Rams 2-1

Bailey Bradt (left) scored the OT winner for the Warriors
Box Score If there was ever a time for Bailey Bradt (Ilderton/) to score her first career CIS goal it would have been Saturday in overtime and she did just that to lift the Warriors to a 2-1 win over the Ryerson Rams.

It was Waterloo's first game in the newly renovated Mattamy Athletic Centre (former Maple Leaf Gardens) and the Warriors relished the experience by picking up two crucial points in the standings.  The win improves Waterloo's record to 6-10-2 and moves them four points ahead of York for the eighth and final playoff spot and just two points back of UOIT for seventh.  Meanwhile the Rams remain in last spot with only five points on the season.

The game opened up with all sorts of chances for the visiting Warriors but they could not solve Rams goalie Dana Carson (London).  Ryerson shifted the momentum into their favour in the later half of the opening period but goalie Rebecca Bouwhuis (Orillia/) would answer the call to keep the game even at 0's into the intermission.

Waterloo would open the scoring only one minute into the second as Kelly MacLean (St. George/) fired home her third of the season on a nice set-up by Marissa Redmond (Ajax/).  Waterloo would cling to the one-goal lead until late in the final frame when Jessica Hartwick (Brampton) slipped one past Bouwhuis to even the score and send the game to overtime.

In overtime it would be Waterloo with the best chances and Bradt would emerge as the hero firing home a perfect shot into the top corner to send the Warrior bench into frenzy.

Carson stopped 30 of 32 shots faced while Bouwhuis continued her success of late, stopping 33 of 34 shots for the win.

The Warriors returned home last night to support the men's hockey team and will hit the road once again today to face the Toronto Varsity Blues (9-8-1) at 4pm.
