Warriors lose season opener in error filled contest

Adam Lentz got the start against the 'Stangs on Wednesday
Errors cost the Warriors big on Wednesday night as they travelled to Western to open their season against the Mustangs, falling 10-2. The Warriors made 5 errors, leading to 7 unearned runs.

Adam Lentz (Calgary/), the 2011 OUA Pitcher of the Year, started on the mound for Waterloo, and gave a gutsy 5 1/3 innings, allowing 7 runs (2 earned) on 6 hits, with 4 strikeouts and 3 walks. Offensively for the Warriors, catcher Ben Tinklin (Kitchener/) had a single and a double, while RF Chris Georges (Pickering/) added a single and an RBI.

Head coach Tim Pegg commented “I thought Lentz threw a great game, keeping the ball down and changing speeds. Our defense let us down tonight and offensively, the timing isn't there yet, but for the most part, I was pleased with how we swung the bats. We're going to have to come back and have a real good few days of practice leading up to the weekend and give our pitchers more help out there.”

Adam Paish started for the Mustangs and was helped by some stellar defensive plays behind him, keeping the Warriors from trying to mount a comeback. Paish lasted 7 innings, allowing 2 runs on 6 hits with 4 strikeouts and no walks.

The Warriors travel to Milton this Sunday to take on the Brock Badgers at 10 am and the Queen's Gaels at 1 pm.
