Warriors win second straight with victory over Ridgebacks

Women's Soccer celebrate a Kaitlyn Barnett goal
Game Summary

The Warriors earned their second straight victory on home turf as they defeated the UOIT Ridgebacks 2-1 on Sunday afternoon at Warrior Field.  The win propels the Warriors to within one point of the Ridgebacks for the sixth and final playoff spot in the OUA west with a 2-5-1 record.  UOIT drops to 2-4-2 with the loss.

Not much separated the two combatants with seven shots a piece and possession time almost at dead even.

UOIT opened the scoring in the 29th minute as Katie Watts of Pickering, Ont. fired one past Waterloo keeper Lesia Bandura (Kitchener/).  The goal allowed was only the second by Bandura in the last four games played.

Down 1-0 heading into the second half, the home side would turn-up their offensive pressure and were rewarded with a goal by Kaitlyn Barnett (Kitchener/), her second in as many games.  Barnett has been a consistent offensive force for Waterloo all season and was finally rewarded with her first two goals on the weekend.

The momentum would continue to shift back and forth for the remainder of the half before rookie midfielder Krystina Wilton (Waterloo/) would tally her first goal as a Warrior in the 89th minute to give Waterloo the 2-1 victory.
Bandura stopped six of seven shots faced in the win.

Waterloo will continue their playoff push next weekend with a tough match against the Laurier Golden Hawks on Friday followed by a rematch with the Ridgebacks on Saturday.  Both games on the road are scheduled for 1pm.
