Game Summary
The Warriors picked up their first win of the season blanking the Brock Badgers 2-0 at Warrior Field on Saturday afternoon. Waterloo scored two late markers to earn the shutout victory and improve to 1-5-1 on the season while Brock dropped to 1-5-0.
Fourth year striker
Kaitlyn Barnett (Kitchener/) put Waterloo ahead 1-0 in the 75
th minute with her first goal of the season. Barnett had several quality chances throughout the match including a point blank chance on Badgers goalie Luciana Di Paolo (Newmarket, Ont.) in the opening minutes of the game.
Following the Barnett goal, Brock would put all sorts of pressure on Waterloo's backfield but keeper
Lesia Bandura (Kitchener/) was solid in net for Waterloo making several key saves to preserve the 1-0 lead.
Waterloo would add an insurance marker in the 90
th minute as
Kristina Stojadinovic (Caledon/) booted home an incredible free kick past Di Paolo from 30 feet out.
Bandura did the rest for Waterloo making nine saves in the win. Di Paolo was less busy facing only four shots on net in the match.
Waterloo return to action tomorrow as they welcome the newest women's soccer team to Warrior Field, the UOIT Ridgebacks (2-3-2).
