The Warriors travelled to Guelph on Wednesday night to take on the undefeated Gryphons at Hastings Stadium. In front of the Guelph crowd, the Warriors handed Guelph their first loss of the season, taking the game 3-1.
Waterloo handed the ball to freshman starting pitcher
Mitchell Kay (Kitchener/) for his first ever OUA start. Kay, who was recruited out of the Oakville Royals program, lived up to expectations, as he went 5 innings, allowing 1 run on 4 hits, walking 2 and striking out 3, earning his first OUA win. Another freshman,
Michael Parrott (Markham/) was nearly unhittable out of the pen, working 4 innings, allowing 0 runs on only 2 hits and picking up the save. Lucas Borges took the loss for Guelph.
Offensively, the Warriors were led by DH
Daniel Baggio (Windsor/), with 2 hits and 2 runs scored.
Head coach
Tim Pegg commented after the game “since that first night in London when we made all those errors, our defense has tightened up and we have played great. That says a lot about these guys and how hard they've worked in practice, just getting their reps in.”
The win evens the Warriors record at 2-2. This weekend they host Western on Saturday and Queen's on Sunday. Both games start at 1 pm at Jack Couch Park in Kitchener.
