Pejicic leads Warriors to first win of 2012

Box Score
By: Martin Timmerman

It was a long time between wins, but the Waterloo Warriors put together a solid game effort en route to a 90-85 win over the visiting Windsor Lancers on Wednesday night.

Cam McIntyre (Kitchener) was back in action after missing four games, but it was rookie Srdjan Pejicic (Waterloo) who led the Warriors with 28 points, including 7 hits from the three point line.

Both teams found it easy to find the bucket in the first quarter as there were nine lead changes and six ties in the first quarter alone. Waterloo was up one by a score of 26-25. The second quarter was all Waterloo until Windsor narrowed the gap at the end. Waterloo had a 12-0 run early in the period to take a double digit lead. At the half the Warriors were up 46-39.

Windsor came out ready to start the second half and had a quick tie at 48-48. Neither team was able to make a run the rest of the quarter and the score was tied at 64-64 heading into the final period.

In the fourth the Warriors went up early with a six point lead at 72-66. But Windsor would tie the score and take the lead with 4:57 remaining. From there it stayed within THREE points until the very end.

Waterloo was up one with the ball and 24.6 remaining, but could not inbound cleanly. Windsor missed their attempt. A Waterloo inbound to McIntyre setup two free throws and a 3 point cushion. This time it was Windsor who could not inbound cleanly and Zach Angelini (Hamilton) stole the ball. He hit his two free throws for a final 5 point margin.

Pejicic led all scorers with his 28 points.  McIntyre added 16 in his return as five Warriors hit for double figures. Lien Phillip led Windsor with 24 points and 19 rebounds. Rotimi Osuntola Jr. added 23 points for Windsor.

Next game for Waterloo is Saturday afternoon when Waterloo hosts the Western Mustangs. Game time is 2:00pm at the PAC.
