Warriors falter in battle of Waterloo

Box Score For the third time this season, the Warriors were shut out by the Laurier Golden Hawks, once again by a score of 5-0 at the Waterloo Memorial Recreation Complex on Thursday night.

If there is any positive for the black and gold it's that they will not have to face their cross-town rivals in regular season action again this season.  The Hawks have outscored Waterloo 13-0 in their three battles and hold an 18 point advantage in the standings.

Laurier is 13-1-2 and sit atop the OUA standings while Waterloo cling to the eighth and final playoff spot with 10 points with a 4-10-2 record.

Hometown girl Caitlin Muirhead opened the scoring 15 minutes into the opening frame while Laura Brooker (Fergus) scored one of her two goals to extend Laurier's lead to 2-0 into the intermission.

Laurier padded their lead midway through the second period as Fiona Lester (Peterborough) notched her fifth of the season.  Brooker then fired home her second in the third period followed by a Paula Lagamba (Toronto) goal to hand Waterloo the 5-0 loss.

The Warriors will wrap up 2012 with a home game on Sunday against the visiting York Lions.  Puck drop is set for 2pm and the tilt can be seen live on SSN Canada.
