Box Score Game Summary
The No. 10 Warriors kept their perfect record intact with a 3-1 win over the York Lions in Toronto on Saturday afternoon. Set scores were 25-20, 13-25, 28-26 and 25-19.
With the victory Waterloo is now 6-0 on the season tied with McMaster for first overall in the OUA. By contrast, the Lions 2-3 record this season is enough for a sixth place ranking.
After taking the first set 25-20, the Warriors fell into a lull in the second giving the Lions ten straight points off the serve of Ray Szeto (Sutton) as the home side easily captured the set 25-13.
The third set proved to be the critical one in the match, being both the hardest fought and closest in score. After many lead changes and going into extra points, the Warriors snuck it out 28-26 to take the pivotal third set.
The fourth set saw the Warriors best play of the game, earning the victory 25-19 despite strong Lions' defense, and closing out the match.
Waterloo's outside hitter
Zachary Doherty (Goderich/) led the game in both kills and points, scoring 18 kills on his way to a 20-point performance.
Fiodar Kazhamiaka (Waterloo/) added 13 kills for the Warriors.
Erich Woolley (New Dundee/) posted 11 digs to lead his team on defence. Woolley now has 78 digs on the season good for first in the OUA. Setter
Scott Thomson (St. Marys/) continued his stellar play collecting 43 assists in the match giving him 227 on the season, good for fourth best in the province.
Szeto led the lions in kills for the match with 17, followed closely by Karim Khalil (Mississauga) who had 15, and led the Lions in total points with 18. Szeto also scored the most digs for the Lions, notching up 11.
The Warriors put their perfect record on the line when they clash with the only other undefeated OUA team, the McMaster Marauders tomorrow afternoon in Hamilton. Game time is set for 3pm and can be seen live on
