No. 5 Gaels out power Warriors in 4-0 win

Box Score A balanced attack and a stifling defence led the No. 5-ranked Queen's Gaels to a 4-0 shutout of the Waterloo Warriors in OUA women's hockey at the Memorial Centre, Friday night. The Gaels outshot Waterloo 31-11 en route to victory.

Waterloo is now 3-7-2 on the season while the powerhouse Gaels improve to 11-1-1 on the season.

The Gaels had a strong offensive start opening the scoring at 11:35 with a 5-on-3 power play goal scored by Shawna Griffin (Calgary).  Taryn Pilon (Peterborough) added her eighth goal of the season at the 16:02 mark of the first period putting the Gaels up 2-0.

The Gaels carried their 2-0 lead into the second period. Queen's continued to dominate offensively and Brittany McHaffie (Guelph) added a power play goal at 19:03 to increase the Gaels' lead to 3-0.

In the third frame, Morgan McHaffie (Guelph) added a goal for the Gaels at the 3:03 mark with an assist from Duncan bringing the game to its final score of 4-0.

Karissa Savage (Calgary, Alta.) got the shutout and had 11 saves for the Gaels while Jamie Grove (Kelowna/) (Kelowna, B.C.) stopped 27 for the Warriors in the loss.

Things don't get easier for the black and gold as they face the Laurier Golden Hawks (10-1-1) on Sunday evening at the Waterloo Rec Complex.
