Box Score
The Waterloo Warriors offence will be happy to see the end of divisional crossover play.
The Warriors were held to two goals or fewer for the fourth time in four games against OUA East division teams, as the Carleton Ravens skated away with a 3-1 victory over Waterloo Saturday night at the Columbia Icefield Arena in Waterloo.
Three different Ravens scored for Carleton, who moves to 5-4-1 with the win. For Waterloo, Justin Larson (Buckhorn/) scored on a 5-on-3 advantage for the Warriors' only goal of the game. The hosts fell to 6-4-0 on the season, as Waterloo wrapped up their OUA east crossover schedule with a respectable 2-2 record.
The Warriors were badly outshot and outchanced, as goaltender Keaton Hartigan (Kitchener/) held them in the game with 27 saves in the loss. At the other end of the ice, Ryan Dube was far less busy, making 15 saves in the win.
The Ravens jumped on Waterloo early and often, outshooting the Warriors 14-7 in the first period. The Ravens also got the only goal of the opening frame, as Joey West cashed on a power play in the late stages of the period to give Carleton a 1-0 lead after 20 minutes.
Early in the second period, Waterloo's stalwart penalty kill once again found itself under duress, and the Ravens capitalized when Ryan Berard scored Carleton's second power play goal of the game to give the Ravens a 2-0 lead. After Larson cut the lead in half on the two-man advantage midway through the period, it looked like Waterloo would enter the final stanza down just one goal.
However, the Ravens had a different idea, and for the second straight game, the Warriors gave up a goal in the last minute of the second period when Carleton's Ryan MacLean beat Hartigan with only 12 seconds left in the middle frame. Carleton carried the play in the second, outshooting the Warriors 10-2.
The Ravens battened down the hatches in the third, as they were content to protect their lead and limit the Warriors' chances. Waterloo outshot Carleton 7-6 in the final 20 minutes, but they couldn't cut into the two-goal Ravens lead.
The Warriors will now return to OUA West division play on Thursday, November 15 when they travel to Oshawa to take on the UOIT Ridgebacks at 7:30pm. Waterloo will then return home to battle the Guelph Gryphons at the annual Think Pink cancer awareness game on Friday, October 16. Puck drop from the CIF arena is scheduled for 7:30pm.
