Box Score
The Waterloo men's basketball did not start the new year the way they were hoping with a tough 110-60 loss on Wednesday night at Laurier.
Third year guard Maxwell Allin of the Hawks led the charge for the Hawks as he posted 21 points, including 19 in the first half, on 7-of-13 shooting from the floor. He also finished the game 5-for-8 from three point range.
The Hawks had four other players record 10 or more points in the victory while every player who dressed for the game had at least two points.
After the two teams traded buckets early in the first quarter, the purple and gold put together a 20-6 run to close out the quarter as they led 26-10 after 10 minutes of play. The second quarter was much of the same as the Hawks continued to make shots and stretched their lead to 26 at the half.
Laurier would put any hopes of a Warrior comeback to bed in the third quarter, outscoring the visitors 28-10 and allowing the starters to rest for the entire fourth quarter as they cruised to their ninth victory of the season. With the loss Waterloo dropped one game below .500 with a 4-5 record.
Waterloo guard
Mike Wright (Burlington/Assumption) of Burlington, Ont., led the Warriors with 25 points while all other Warrior players were kept to within single digits in the loss.
The Warriors will hope to turn things around as they travel to Hamilton on Saturday for an afternoon showdown with the McMaster Marauders. Tip-off is set for 3pm.
