Offense goes cold in 4-0 loss to Lions

The Waterloo women's hockey team was shutout for the second straight game as the York Lions handed Waterloo a 4-0 loss at the CIF arena on Sunday afternoon.

Jessalyn Bogacki made 20 saves for her first shutout of the season while Martina Michaud (Etobicoke/) was busy for Waterloo stopping 30 of 33 shots.

After a scoreless first period and a half, Kristie Wilson put the Lions on the board with her 10th goal of the season. Waterloo's defenders didn't pick her up cutting to the net and she was left all alone in front, making no mistake on a shot that went through the five-hole of Michaud.

That goal was the only one of the period, and the Lions held on to a slim 1-0 lead heading into the third. But they blew the game open in the final frame to coast to the four-goal victory.

Andrea Joyce (Mississauga, Ont.) scored the team's second goal less than three minutes into the third for her seventh of the season. She got the puck at centre ice from Navraj Rai (Brampton, Ont.), skated past a defender and undressed Michaud in front of the net before sliding the puck in.

Ten minutes later Stephanie Dovaston (Unionville, Ont.) tallied another goal when she and Wilson skated in alone on Michaud after a Waterloo giveaway and she put the buck into the back of the net.
Erin Cameron (Ajax, Ont.) added an empty netter with less than one minute left for the team's fourth goal.

Waterloo is now 8-10-4 on the season but remains only two points back of Windsor for the sixth and final playoff spot.  York improved to 12-9-1, good for third place in the OUA with 25 points.

The Warriors return to action next weekend with a pair of road games against UOIT on Friday and Queen's on Saturday.
