Saturday, Sept. 24 vs. Toronto – Game 1
Waterloo 7, Toronto 1
Waterloo earned their seventh straight victory Saturday with a 7-1 victory over Toronto in the first game of a double header. Toronto scored a single run in the first inning, but Waterloo responded with two runs of their own in the bottom of the first and never looked back.
Waterloo added five runs in the sixth inning to put the game out of hand.
Nolan Pettipiece (Burlington/) led the way offensively with two hits. Dave Allen,
Daniel Baggio (Windsor/),
Brandon Beattie (St. Catharines/) and
Ben Norris (Waterloo/) all had a hit and an RBI. Starter Adam Lents went the distance for his third win of the season to lead the Warriors. Adam went seven innings, allowing one run on seven hits and striking out three, moving his era to 0.89 for the season in 19 innings pitched.
Saturday, Sept. 24 vs. Toronto – Game 2
Toronto 4, Waterloo 3
The Warriors win streak was snapped at seven as they were defeated 4-3 by Toronto in game two of the double header. Toronto scored three runs in the second inning and one in the third to take and early lead off starter and loser
Anthony Douris (Newmarket/).
Douris lasted six innings, allowing four runs on four hits and he struck out five.
Matt Reeves (London/) pitched a clean seventh inning in relief. Waterloo put together a rally in the seventh, scoring three runs on back to back doubles by
Greg Cohen (Toronto/) and
Mike Gatchene (Kitchener/). Cohen had one hit and one RBI while Gatchene drove in 2 on his double. The Warriors got another runner over to third with two out but could not drive him in and the rally fell short.
Sunday, Sept. 25 @ Western – Game 1
Western 8, Waterloo 2
On Sunday, Waterloo lost both ends of a double header to Western in their two worst outings of the season. Game one starter
Brandon Beattie (St. Catharines/) suffered his first loss of the season, lasting only two and two-third innings allowing seven runs on seven hits and little help from his defense as the Warriors committed three errors.
The lone bright spot for the Warriors was rookie reliever
Johnathan Gbedemah (Guelph/) who went two and one-third innings allowing no hits and no runs and struck out two.
Mike Gatchene (Kitchener/) and Nolan Pettipice each had an RBI for the Warriors as the fell to Western 8-2 in game one.
Sunday, Sept. 25 @ Western – Game 2
Western 8, Waterloo 0
Game two was not any better for the Warriors as they allowed four runs in the third inning and three in the fourth on the way to losing 8-0. Again the Warriors made three errors and the pitching staff allowed seven walks to put the Warriors in trouble all day.
Joel Smith (Chatham/) took the loss, allowing four runs (one earned) on five hits and he struck out one in two and two-third innings of work. Reliever
Jay Flannigan (Cornwall/) struggled for the first time this year, allowing three runs on just one hit and walked five.
Drew Ballak (Kitchener/) had the lone Warrior hit. The Warrior's record now stands at 9-5 with their next action on Friday, September 30 as they host the Laurier Golden Hawks for a double header at Jack Couch Park. First pitch is set for 6pm.
