Box Score The Windsor Lancers cruised to a 37-13 win over the Waterloo Warriors thanks to a 30 point first half on Saturday afternoon as part of Waterloo's homecoming at Warrior Field.
The Lancers jumped out of the gate with points on their first two possessions to take a 10-0 lead and would add 20 more points in the second quarter for their third win of the season. The Lancers now sit in second place with a 3-1 record while the Warriors fell to 0-4.
The opening drive of the game would result in a 27 yard field goal for rookie kicker Sebastien Rimbert (Tecumseh, Ont.) to give Windsor a 3-0 lead. After a three and out for Waterloo, Windsor would add to their lead on a 10 yard strike from quarterback Austin Kennedy (Windsor, Ont.) to Paul Lefaive (Markham, Ont.) to put the Lancers up 10-0. The Lefaive touchdown was set up by two lengthy runs by Kennedy who was running wild on the Warriors defense in the first half.
Following a 20 yard pass to Lancers receiver Cory Fernades (Mississauga, Ont.) to end the first quarter, Windsor would waste little time scoring their second major of the game. Lefaive would score his second touchdown of the game, this time on a seven yard run to put Windsor up 16-0 with a missed convert.
After Waterloo failed to pick up a first down on the next possession, Windsor would continue their dominating first half with a 45 yard pass from Kennedy to Jordan Brescacin (Tecumseh, Ont.) at the 10:38 minute mark.
For the third straight possession Windsor would build on their lead at the 8:45 mark of the second quarter on 52 yard run by Shomari Grant (Florida) for what was the highlight of the game. Grant had 14 carries for 116 yards in the game to lead all players on the ground.
Both teams would put in their second string quarterbacks to start the second half with Brian Chris (Waterloo/) of the Warriors earning his first completion of his career with a 21 yard strike to Luke Balch (London/). That completion would set up a 41 yard field goal by Jake Fiorucci (Niagara Falls/) to get Waterloo on the board.
Down 30-3 to start the fourth quarter, Chris would once again lead is Warriors down field and find receiver Christian Lewis (Kitchener/) for a 26 yard touchdown pass at 11:48.
Two minutes later Windsor would deny any hopes for a Warrior come back with another long reception this time by Evan Pszczonak (Amherstburg, Ont.). The 47 yard pass was completed by Lancer quarterback Andrew Downer (Toronto) at the 10:14 minute mark of the final quarter.
Waterloo would add three more points on a rouge and conceived safety by the Lancers, to make the final 37-13 in favour of Windsor.
Chris had a very successful Warrior debut throwing for 236 yards on 20 completions in just two quarter's of action. Kennedy was nearly perfect in his first half performance for the Lancers, going 9 for 11 with 180 yards adding 78 yards on the ground while Downer was 6 for 11 with 112 yards.
Next up for the Warriors (0-4) is a road game in Hamilton on Saturday, October 1 as Waterloo battles the McMaster Marauders (3-1) at 1pm while the Windsor Lancers (3-1) host the Guelph Gryphons (1-3) for a night game at 7pm.
