WATERLOO, Ont. - The University of Waterloo is proud to announce the hiring of
Shaun Reagan as their new head coach of the Warrior women's hockey program.
Reagan brings with him a wealth of women's hockey experience and knowledge. In 2008, Reagan was named the first ever head coach of the Kitchener-Waterloo (KW) Rangers of the Provincial Women's Hockey League (PWHL).
The PWHL is the most competitive league available to young women striving to further their athletic future while obtaining a post-secondary education. In 2011 Reagan guided the Rangers to a 19-12-5 record and a quarter-final berth in the PWHL playoffs.
The life-long resident of Waterloo gained valuable experience coaching the Rangers wearing many hats for the organization. Reagan was responsible for player recruitment and attracting the top players in the province. Additionally, he played an integral role between his players and the University recruitment process which will give him an edge in recruiting top players to the Warriors. Finally, Reagan has a strong sense of developing community support and school spirit for the program.
On top of his KW Rangers experience, Reagan has been an assistant coach for the Kitchener Dutchmen of the Midwestern Junior B hockey league and a head coach of several Waterloo Ravens women's hockey teams.
Adding to his already impressive resume, Reagan had an illustrious playing career in Canadian University Sport (CIS) and the Ontario Hockey League (OHL). Reagan played three seasons for cross-town rival Laurier Golden Hawks and four seasons with two different teams in the OHL. Between the Brantford Alexanders and Windsor Spitfires, Reagan collected 170 points in 255 games played.
Associate Director,
Christine Stapleton who played a key role in the hiring process is confident in Reagan's ability to turn the Waterloo Warriors into a competitive OUA women's hockey program. “Shaun's background and knowledge is very impressive and we are excited to see him develop the program,” mentioned Stapleton. “He stood above the rest having local head coach experience of young women enabling him to connect with each student-athlete to enhance the profile of women's hockey at Waterloo.”
Reagan is excited and humbled to be selected as the next head coach of the Warriors. “This is a great opportunity for me to further my coaching and mentoring experience and turn potential into reality,” commented Reagan. “I look forward to working with all of the hard working and dedicated student-athletes at a University level and I'm thrilled to be a part of the Warrior family.”
Reagan is currently a teacher in the Waterloo Catholic District School board in the Child and Adolescent Inpatient Psychiatric (CAIP) unit of Grand River Hospital. He begins his duties immediately and will have a busy summer recruiting and training for the upcoming season.
