Game Summary
The Warrior women's hockey team picked up their second straight win with a come from behind 3-2 victory over the Brock Badgers on Friday night at the Seymour-Hannah Centre in St. Catharines, Ont.
Rookie goalie
Rebecca Bouwhuis (Orillia/) was stellar between the pipes for Waterloo stopping 34 of 36 shots faced for the win to improve Waterloo's record to 3-6-0. With the loss the Badgers dropped to 5-4-0 on the season.
Brock opened the scoring 1:09 into the first period when senior Hailey Webb (Orillia, Ont.) potted her second of the season on assists from senior Kristen Dewsbury (Oshawa, Ont.) and junior Rachel Piotrowski (Kitchener, Ont.).
With just over a minute left in the first, Brock doubled their lead with a shorthanded goal from sophomore Leigh Vanderveen (Niagara on the Lake, Ont.). It was her team-leading fifth goal of the season. Sophomore Jessica Fickel (Fort Erie, Ont.) and freshman Ally Graham (Thamesford, Ont.) provided the assists.
Waterloo's
Lindsey Ceaser (Owen Sound/) cut the Badgers lead in half with a shorthanded goal at 3:58 of the second period.
The Warriors tied the game with a powerplay marker from
Emma McMillan (Hastings/) at 12:33 of the third period. Only 48 seconds later, senior
Kelly MacLean (St. George/) scored her team leading sixth goal of the season which would stand up as the winner. MacLean now has nine points (6g, 3a) in 10 games played this season.
Brock freshman goaltender Emily Kelly (Port Elgin, Ont.) made 22 saves in the loss while Bouwhuis led her team to victory making timely saves throughout the game.
Waterloo look for their third straight win this afternoon as they face the Guelph Gryphons at the Gryphon Centre Arena.
