Warriors lose third straight in 3-2 OT loss to Ridgebacks

The Waterloo men's hockey team dropped their third straight game losing to the UOIT Ridgebacks 3-2 in overtime on Friday night at the CIF arena in Waterloo.

Brendan Wise (Stouffville, Ont) scored with just over a minute remaining in overtime to give the Ridgebacks their second win of the season (2-6-0).  With the loss Waterloo fell to 4-3-1 and fourth in the OUA west with nine points.

Waterloo took a 2-0 lead in the first period with goals coming from Josh Schappert (Winnipeg/), his fifth of the season and Tyler Moir (Calgary/), his second of the season.  Waterloo held the two goal lead heading into the second period.

The Ridgebacks would find their legs and get on the board at the midway point of the period as Josh Vatri (Barrie, Ont.) would fire one pass Waterloo goalie Justin Leclerc (Saskatoon/). Seven minutes later Vatri would sneak another one past Leclerc to even the game 2-2.

The Warriors and Ridgebacks could not settle the score in the third period so would head to overtime where UOIT would earn the extra point off the stick of Wise.  Ridgebacks goalie Jason Guy (Whitby, Ont.) stopped 41 of 43 shots for the win while Leclerc was just as busy allowing three goals on 42 shots faced in the loss.

Waterloo hope to put a hault to their skid as they face the Guelph Gryphons on the road this evening with puck drop set for 7:30pm.
