Warriors lose back-to-back road games to Western and Windsor

The Waterloo men's volleyball team lost in straight sets (25-18, 26-24, 25-21) to the No.7 Western Mustangs on Friday night in London.  The Mustangs remain undefeated on the season at 8-0 while Waterloo dropped to 3-4 on the season. 

The Mustangs maintained the lead for the entire first set and the Warriors were only able to come within two points at any given time. Garrett May had two aces for the Mustangs in the first set.

The second set was hard-fought and a well-deserving win for Western. Back and forth plays until late in the set saw Waterloo take a 24-22 lead. Western went on the attack and pulled off four consecutive points to go up 2-0 in the match.

Western was able to wrap up the third and final set, 25-19, and sweep a team for the fifth time in six games.

Phil James (Ottawa, Ont.) led the Mustangs with 12 kills on 13 attempts while Garrett May (Scarborough, Ont.) had 10 kills in the match. 

Outside hitters Fiodhar Kazhamiaka and Cameron Wheelan (Barrie/) each had nine kills in the loss James Evans (Rockwood/Warriors) and Jordan Dyck (St. Catharines/) chipped in with five each.  Evans also contributed with four service aces.

Waterloo hit the court again on Saturday as they face the Windsor Lancers (5-3) with hopes of getting their record back to .500.

The Warriors fell to 3-5 on the season following a 3-1 loss (25-23, 25-19, 18-25, 25-21) to the Windsor Lancers on Saturday evening.
 
The game was very competitive and the Lancers showed their resolve after a disappointing five set loss to Guelph the night before.
 
Kyle Williamson finished off the Warriors with an ace on match point in the fourth set to seal the Lancer victory.
 
The Lancers were also lead by Harrison Oake with 18 kills, Will Alexander with 50 assists, and Andrew Foster with 16 digs.
 
The Warriors were led by Cameron Wheelan (Barrie/) with 13 kills along with 11 digs, and Scott Thomas with 37 assists.

Waterloo close out the 2011 calendar year next weekend in Guelph as they battle the Gryphons on Friday, December 2 on the road.
