The Waterloo Warriors used a hot start to defeat York Lions 93-72 on Friday night at the PAC gym for their fourth win of the season.

Waterloo improved to 4-1 on the season and have won their last three home games, while the Lions remain winless at 0-5.

After trading baskets in the first two minutes the Warriors went on two different 9-0 runs in the first quarter and an 18 point lead after one period. Another surge in the second made the lead 53-28 at half time. Waterloo hit for 66% in the first half and had just a single turnover.

With the game result decided, the second half was no longer dramatic and York narrowed the gap slightly to 21 by the end of the game.

Brendan Smith (Kamloops) had a career night for Waterloo, hitting for 22 points, mainly on feeds from Cam McIntyre (Kitchener), who turned a struggling shooting evening into an eight assist performance. Wayne Bridge (North York) finished with 19 points for the Warriors, including a four point play late in the first half. Rounding out the double digit scoring were Mike Wright (Burlington) with 14 and Zach Angelini (Hamilton) with 13.

For the York Lions, Justin Bell led the way with 13 points, while David Tyndale added 10 points.

Waterloo will host Laurentian on Saturday in their last home game before the new year. Game time is 8:00pm at the PAC. Saturday's game will also be carried live on SSN Canada.
