Game Summary
The Waterloo women's hockey team had their five game point streak snapped on Saturday afternoon as part of Think Pink weekend in a 4-1 loss to the Western Mustangs at the CIF arena.
Western scored two goals in a span of two minutes late in the first period and left winger Katherine Dillon (Oshawa, Ont.) notched her seventh and eighth goals of the season to give the Mustangs their sixth win of the season.
Western moved in to fifth place in the OUA standings with a 6-6-0 record while Waterloo dropped into seventh with a 5-7-0 record.
Defenseman Michelle Saunders (Oakville, Ont.) opened the scoring for the Mustangs at the 12:51 mark of the first period before Lindsay Gidomski (Mississauga, Ont.) would give Western a two goal cushion with her first of the season on the power play.
Western would add to their lead midway through the second period with Dillon scoring one of her two goals on the season firing the puck past Warriors netminder
Rebecca Bouwhuis (Orillia/).
Waterloo would cut into the Western lead late in the second period with
Kelly Toms (Ennismore/) potting her second of the season with an assist going to
Jessica Tracey (Woodslee/) but it was too little too late for the black and gold as Dillon would add her second of the game five minutes into the third period to secure the 4-1 win.
Bouwhuis faced 35 shots in the loss while at the other end Mustangs goalie Kelly Campbell (St. Thomas) was the busier of the two with 37 stops, several of the spectacular fashion to pick up her fifth win of the season.
Warriors return to action this afternoon in the final varsity game of the Waterloo Think Pink weekend as they face the Windsor Lacers at 2pm.
