Waterloo has earned at least a point in their last five games to come within one game of .500 with a record of 5-6-1. The Warriors now sit in fifth place with 11 points only two points behind Windsor for fourth. With the loss the expansion Ryerson Rams dropped to 1-10-0 on the season.
The black and gold have allowed the second lowest goals against in the OUA at 23 thanks in part to the stellar defensive play of twins Julia and
Sarah Endicott (Toronto/) on the back end and strong goaltending by Bouwhuis.
The Warriors controlled the play in the first period, outshooting the Rams 10-2. Waterloo's
Kate Wagner (Sauble Beach/) would open the scoring when she jammed the puck past Ryerson goaltender Emma Crawley (Herring Cove, N.S.) during a goal-mouth scramble.
The play in the second frame was much more even and the Rams would get stronger as the period progressed. Ryerson had a couple of quality opportunities on the power play with three minutes to go but could not solve Bouwhuis.
However,
Emma McMillan (Hastings/) stopped the Rams momentum by scoring with just 54 seconds remaining in the period. Crawley made the first save but McMillan put her own rebound upstairs to give Waterloo a 2-0 lead after 40 minutes.
The Rams continued to press in the third period and with 11:48 to play, were rewarded with a two-man advantage for 1:38. Ryerson had a couple of good chances generated from the blue line but once again could not find the back of the net.
The Warriors would put the game out of reach when
Kelly MacLean (St. George/) scored on a shorthanded breakaway to make it 3-0 with five minutes to play in regulation.
